B.Sc - Food Technology
Food technology is an emerging field of study that deals with the science and technology involved in the processing, preservation, and packaging of food products. This is a programme to develop individuals with expertise in food science and technology. Food Technology provides students with a profound understanding of the scientific and technological methodologies essential for understanding the nature of raw foodstuffs.This course enables students to comprehend essential topics such as dietary composition, nutrition and food, physical and microbiological characteristics. It also helps students understand various approaches in food processing and food preservation. The programme comprises the study of numerous topics such as chemical, biological, nutritional, biochemical, microbiological, etc.
The students are also offered a specialisation, which includes grains, dairy products, sugar products, alcohol products, bakery and clothing products, processing of oil and olive seeds, and meat fish, fruit and vegetables.
The curriculum lasts three years (Six semesters).
Candidates who have passed (Eligible for Higher Studies)the HSE of the Kerala State Board of Higher Secondary Examination or Any other examination recognized as equivalent.
Admission is based on the Centralized Admissions Process (UG) conducted by the Directorate of Admission, Calicut University. Candidates shall submit a separate filled in application form issued by MET’s with copies of relevant certificates at the time of admission in the college.
Graduates of B.Sc. Food Technology can find employment in various fields, including food processing industries, quality control departments, research and development, and government agencies.
